Runer Font

"Runer" is a sans serif font that i made inspired by the ancient Scandinavian alphabet. As a child I remember visiting historical sites with runestones in my homeland of Denmark. Although I could not read it I was fascinated by its geometrical form and hidden meaning. Over time the runic alphabet has changed many times and I wanted to bring this alphabet into the 21th century.

In the runic alphabet each rune not only represents a sound but also has its own distinct meaning similar to the letters in Chinese calligraphy. For example the letter T in this font is connected to the character of Tyr associated with law and heroic glory in Nordic mythology. But T can also be associated with strength and duty and is the mark of the warrior.

I wanted to create a stout font and concept with modern day serenity in form while still being faithful to the rich heritage. The materials used are of dense industrial carton giving it a sturdy feel and the T-shirt is strain-resistant.

To promote this new font I made a promotion package containing a bookmark with an overview of the font, a folder which doubles up as a poster and a T- shirt.

Runer is a free TrueType font and can be downloaded through this link on Fontstruct.com
